This year NSLPS will be presenting the talk, "The Architecture of Nova Scotia Lighthouses":

When we think of a Nova Scotia lighthouse, we see a small white tower with a red lantern on a rugged coast flashing its beacon to guide mariners along their way. This little wooden lighthouse affectionately known as a pepper pot or pepper shaker light was not the first style of lighthouse to be erected in NS . Nor was wood used as the primary building material at the start of lighting up the coast by lighthouse. Come learn about the six building materials used in lighthouse construction and the various lighthouse styles that have evolved since the lighting of Nova Scotia’s first lighthouse in 1736 at Fort Louisbourg by the French.
