CRANBERRY ISLANDS I - Light Details

  • Standing: This light is no longer standing.
  • Operating: This light is no longer operating.
  • Began: 1883
  • Year Lit: 1883
  • Structure Type: Octagonal tower, red & white bands, dwelling attached
  • Light Characteristic: Fixed White (1882)
  • Tower Height: 060ft feet high.
  • Light Height: 075ft feet above water level.

History Items for This Lighthouse

  • 1857 - 2 vertical fixed lights, Argand lamps
  • 1864 - fog signal established (NS's first)
  • 1883 - destroyed by fire, temporary lights from skeleton tower

  • Standing: This light is no longer standing.
  • Operating: This light is no longer operating.
  • Began: 1815
  • Year Lit: 1815
  • Engineer: Patrick Lannegan
  • Structure Type: Octagonal tower, red & white stripes
  • Light Characteristic: Occulting White (1922)
  • Tower Height: 078ft feet high.
  • Light Height: 089ft feet above water level.

History Items for This Lighthouse

  • 1883 - replaced original tower of 1815 that was destroyed by fire
  • 1911 - diaphone fog signal established, replaced horn of 1864
  • 1922 - 3rd order dioptric lens, group occulting white (30s), diaphone fog signal
  • 1929 - replaced by present tower
