BUNKER ISLAND I - Light Details

  • Light Type: Cassion Light
  • Location: On reef, SW point of Bunker Island
  • Standing: This light is no longer standing.
  • Operating: This light is no longer operating.
  • Began: 1873
  • Year Lit: 1874
  • Structure Type: Tapered square wood tower, white, on cassion
  • Light Characteristic: Fixed Red (1922)
  • Tower Height: 027ft feet high.
  • Light Height: 031ft feet above water level.

History Items for This Lighthouse

  • 1874 - 1883 - catatropic lens, fixed red, 10m, listed as Yarmouth Harbour
  • 1885 - fog bell established
  • 1922 - 4th order dioptric lens, fog bell in operation
  • 1924 - replaced by second tower (may have burnt)

BUNKER ISLAND II - Light Details

  • Location: On reef, SW point of Bunker Island
  • Standing: This light is no longer standing.
  • Operating: This light is no longer operating.

  • Year Lit: 1924
  • Structure Type: Square wood tower, on dwelling, white, on red cassion
  • Light Characteristic: Fixed Red (1941)
  • Light Height: 032ft feet above water level.

History Items for This Lighthouse

  • 1924 - replaced original tower of 1874 (may have burnt)
  • 1941 - 4th order dioptric lens, mechanical fog bell
  • 1954 - hurricane Edna caused considerable damage
  • 1959 - replaced by present tower
