Established in 1913 to guide shipping in the Minas Basin, the Five Island Lighthouse has been moved many times to escape the relentless advances of the Fundy tides. The final move in 2008, was due to the sale of the property. The three storey "pepper pot" light was decommissioned by the Coast Guard in 1993. Three years later, the Lighthouse was taken over by the Five Islands Lighthouse Preservation Society, and moved onto Sand Point Beach Campgrounds. In 2008 this still very strong lighthouse was lifted onto a flatbed and trucked down the highway approximately 7 km. to its new location at the "Five Island Lighthouse Park," still overlooking the North Shore of the Minas Basin. Seaward from the lighthouse there are wonderful views of the spectacular  "Five Islands", with all their ghost and folklore. The lighthouse is located in a huge open field with cook shelter, playground equipment, loading ramp, picnic tables and Bar- B-Q pits. Although there is no camping on the grounds, several campgrounds are nearby, also restaurants and a convenience store.
