This traditional "pepperpot" was built in 1922 to guide local fishing boats into Lobster Bay and Abbotts Harbour. Before the lighthouse was built, a local fisherman would stand on the shore below his fish shed, waving a lantern to help vessels into port.

The Abbott's Harbour lighthouse was moved in June, 2004, from the Lobster Bay, Abbott's Harbour, Middle West Pubnico location, to a new location on the 17 acre site of Le Village Historique Acadien de la Nouvelle-Ecosse in Lower West Pubnico. It now belongs to Le Village (part of the 27 site Nova Scotia Museum). The lighthouse has been restored and freshly painted and at night it can be seen from the north because it is illuminated. It now faces Pubnico Harbour on a small peninsula, just off Grand Ile in Pubnico Harbour. Le Village is open June 15-Oct 15th, daily, and the public can walk to the lighthouse with the museum admission fee.

Driving Directions: Le Village is located in West Pubnico, Nova Scotia on the Lighthouse Route. From the Town of Yarmouth, follow Highway 103 for approximately 40 km. Driving time is 30 minutes. Take Exit 31, follow Route 335 South. Go left on School Street and left on Old Church Road, total 10.3 km to the site from Exit 31. From Halifax, follow Highway 103 and take Exit 31. From Halifax to West Pubnico, driving time is three hours. Via Halifax, an alternate route from Barrington to Pubnico is the scenic coastal Route 3 "The Lighthouse Route."
